Between the World and I

Between the world and I,
There is the future and the past,
The recollection of winters gone,
The longing for summer to last.

Between the world and I,
There is a ceaseless quest,
For peace and joy and solitude,
For a moment of silent rest.

Between the world and I,
There are the thoughts of what I am,
A writer, an actor, a critical factor,
A son, a friend, a man.

Between the world and I,
There are words on a page,
Reaching for a blazing sun,
Capturing but distant rays.

Between the world and I,
I see I am of the world,
And with no between
to construct a screen,
My loss bridges the fold.

  1. “I see I am of the world” – spot on.
Personally speaking, the moment of realising that “I am of the world” has been immensely grounding, liberating and exciting. I am merely a ball of energy in this world. And it’s my thoughts, which drive my feelings, determine my energy.

    1. Glad to hear it resonated, and thanks for sharing your experience and insight. It’s really interesting to reflect on things in that way – as thoughts driving feelings, which in turn determine one’s energy.
