Hello Fellow Traveller, I feel that music – or at least the combination of words and music – can convey something which language alone cannot. As the Sufi mystic, singer and poet Hazrat Inayat Khan said: "Music is the language of the soul, and for two people of different nations or races to unite there is no better source than music." With this in mind, I've been focusing on singing and learning guitar in recent years. Some of the songs I've performed at gigs and open mic nights are especially close to my heart – like Leonard Cohen's 'Dance Me to the End of Love', Don McLean's 'Vincent', and The Beatles' 'Let It Be'. While others are more outside my comfort zone and habitual sense of self – think 'Hotel California', 'Cecilia', or even 'Teenage Dirtbag'. As Walt Whitman said, each of us contains multitudes – so, as an artist, I'm trying to explore, and express, all parts of myself. We all need a balance of yin and yang, and perhaps one's unique voice draws on both energies. Please read on to learn more about my music pursuits and the connection I feel with particular songs.
